London Irish Film Club Presents Rocky Road to Dublin & The Making Of

coutard_on_set.jpg

Decades before Michael Moore, Irish-born journalist Peter Lennon and Raoul Coutard, who was at the time one of the world's best cinematographers, shot this controversial and classic documentary set against a backdrop of 1960s Dublin, all to a rousing Dubliners soundtrack.

Through a series of "innocent" interviews, Ireland's patriotic sportsmen, priests, censors, the writer Sean O'Faolain, the film director John Huston and "brain-washed" children unwittingly convey the truth about a repressed, suppressed and censored Republic and the hypocrisy of church, politics and the State.

Selected by the Cannes Festival to represent Ireland in 1968 and shown across Europe and North America, it had one brief run in 1968 at the Dublin International Film Theatre where it was banned for more than three decades until its restoration by the Irish Film Institute.

Director : Peter Lennon 90 mins (2005)
