Q&A LAURENT CANTET: THE CLASS
Special Preview of the Palme D’or winner, THE CLASS followed by a Q&A with director Laurent Cantet
Deserved winner of the Palme D’or at Cannes 2008 and according to The Guardian’s Peter Bradshaw, “One of the best films to emerge this year”, Laurent Cantet’s The Class again demonstrates his mastery of compelling human dramas, as we saw in the critically acclaimed Human Resources. Based on the best-selling novel Between the Walls by former teacher François Begeaudeau, this real life portrayal reveals the tensions and issues within the classroom when Begeaudeau’s extravagant and frank teaching methods are challenged by his pupils in a tough French school. Working with actual students who were allowed to develop their characters over an extended preparation period, the film is also shot on digital video to heighten the sensation of watching real situations and events unfold.
“…a magnificent film… A winning blend of documentary style and improvised drama, the film reflects the changing nature of French society in microcosm…” Jason Solomons, The Observer
