Shorts & Promos Evening: Science 1st April 2009
As Obama vowed to restore Science to its rightful place in his historic inauguration speech, Film Friends Forever will be exploring the role of science in short films, and promos with a selection based on science and science fiction. We will delight and surprise you with wars taking place in the future, visualisations of invisible fields, animal behaviour and more!
Our venue "Queen of Hoxton" are putting on a special drinks promotion for you Film Friends, "Toss the Boss". Go head to head with Q of H staff in a battle of the dice. Roll higher than bar and your drinks are free! Yes we are encouraging gambling and irresponsible drinking.

The secret lives of invisible magnetic fields are revealed as chaotic ever-changing geometries . All action takes place around NASA's Space Sciences Laboratories, UC Berkeley, to recordings of space scientists describing their discoveries . Actual VLF audio recordings control the evolution of the fields as they delve into our inaudible surroundings, revealing recurrent ‘whistlers' produced by fleeting electrons . Are we observing a series of scientific experiments, the universe in flux, or a documentary of a fictional world.

A look at the histories of Harwell, birthplace of the UK nuclear industry, and the new develoment of fusion energy technology at the Culham facility in Oxfordshire.

Rudolph Bank has fallen for a girl obsessed with sofas. He will go to any lengths to win her over including stealing a jar full of science. Second place in Guardian's recent Mark Ravenhill film contest.

A trip to the zoo ends in colourful chaos.

At the bottom of the garden, some unusual vegetation is protruding from the undergrowth. Nom'med for best newcomer at Rushes, best film at London Short Film Fest, best digital at Raindance, final 25 for best short at BIFA.

Jude Greenaway aka Scanone / Yellow Machines / resident audio Artist at Film Friends, will be providing audio entertainment for the evening. Jude has a long history of audio works / collaborations with Light Surgeons / United Visual Artists / Imperial Leisure / Johnny Hardstaff designing scores for various projects. Also signed to three independent Electronic labels releasing a hybrid of Dub / Electro / IDM tracks. Greenaway will be inviting various guests to play at Film Friends whom will be announced at the next event. Also in the pipeline ' Yellow Machines ' AV DVD Album to be released later this year.
