All Power to the Imagination! 1968 and Its Legacies marks the creative resistance of a remarkable year, while placing its lessons in the context of our own times. Entires are now being accepted for this year’s ThinkSync Films short film competition - founded in 2005, the competition brings together independent film-makers with independent record labels and publishers, and entrants to the competition submit short films which incorporate one or more tracks downloadable free of charge from www.thinksyncfilms.com The competition rewards the most skilful and appropriate use of the music within the film, the winner receiving a substantial cash prize at a screening event and party in the summer as part of the Rushes Soho Shorts Festival. The theme this year is ‘?’ and submission deadline is Friday 6 June 2008, so it’s time to check out the tracks on offer!
On 17th of February Dublin Film Festival has a retrospective on Jonas Mekas. Emigration etc, describes him as ‘widely regarded as one of the leading figures of American avant-garde filmmaking or the “New American Cinema,” with the likes of John Lennon, Yoko Ono, Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali appearing in the innumerable hours of his film diaries reflecting on his life in New York, where he has been working for the past 60 years.’
