Take Three Girls - The Dolly Mixture Story

Paul Kelly's fascinating film traces the history of Dolly Mixture, a precursor to indie pop and a force to be reckoned with in their own right mixing the pure pop of 60s girls groups with a bit of glam, mod and punk.
Perhaps best known as the backing group on Captain Sensible's No1 hit 'Happy Talk', Dolly Mixture were a force to be reckoned with in their own right mixing the pure pop of 60s girls groups with a bit of glam, mod and punk. They were a precursor to indie pop and can claim a direct influence on the Riot Grrrl movement. They were an all girl band who stuck to their guns, not caving to major label demands.
Paul Kelly's fascinating film traces the band's story from their schooldays in Cambridge through the post punk era of the late seventies to their final performance in 1983. With a wealth of rare archive material and interviews with Debsey, Rachel, Hester and Captain Sensible this little gem of a film is both amusing and poignant.
The film will be followed by live acoustic performance by a member of the band.
The screening will take place downstairs at The Slaughtered Lamb. Please remember that The Slaughtered Lamb is a pub/bar so there will be a low level of noise beyond our control during the screening.
